Take your imagination to the next level by creating your own comics and graphic novels. Learn how to tell engaging stories and investigate character development, plot structure, scripting, and storyboarding. Explore penciling, inking, coloring, space, and perspective through the use of a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional media, which may include colored pencils, oil pastels, watercolors, and handmade zines. Virtual visits to the Art Institute of Chicago and other online resources complement this studio course. Open to beginning students and those who want to continue developing their skills, previous drawing experience is helpful but not required. Projects will vary from session to session.

"It is great to be able to have access to SAIC through the online courses. It would be impossible to attend it in person. I hope SAIC maintains the online format with some course options in the future."
-Parent of Comics and Graphic Novels Online student, Fall 2020
"Students had different styles of art, some beginners, some more advanced. Everyone was supported and encouraged. Appreciate that SAIC offers online courses. Also convenient for students who might need to work from different cities and not want to miss a class."
