Students with basic graphic design skills and prior Adobe Illustrator experience explore uses of the application to create sophisticated designs and illustrations. Beginning with a review of important functions and tools, demonstrations and in-class projects present more advanced topics including transparency, feathering, masking, compound paths, gradients, layering techniques, and the specifics of the pen tool. Attention will be given to exporting files to other applications and platforms including, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign and the web. Note: This Adult Continuing Education online course is project-based with no set meetings times and 24-7 access to course materials. Weekly activities will include readings, video demonstrations, tutorials, online discussions, assignments, and critiques. Access to a computer with Adobe Illustrator installed is required. A free 7-day trial and monthly subscription are available at adobe.com/illustrator.
Note: Students in this course will be provided with an Adobe Creative Cloud License for the duration of the course. We recommend that you have a laptop that meets the minimum requirements for Adobe Creative Cloud.
"The course had a good balance of assignments and an appropriate amount of reading that was manageable with a full-time (day) job. I appreciated the weekly discussion posts that kept me engaged as a student. I never felt overwhelmed and I never felt bored. I liked that I was able to work on projects and watch the tutorials at my own pace, and on my own schedule."
