Curious about screen printing, but unsure how to get started? Or are you looking to refine your technique, work on new projects, and develop a more flexible, DIY approach to screen printing that doesn’t require access to a dedicated print studio? This class will guide you in developing a DIY screen printing workflow, at home or in your studio - with a focus on techniques that can all be done without a darkroom, harsh chemicals, or a pressure washer (no photo emulsion!).
You’ll develop a broad toolkit of approaches to creating imagery by cutting stencils, using screen filler and resists, and monoprinting using watercolors. We’ll introduce approaches to making editioned multiples, as well as more experimental unique prints and series; we’ll talk ink mixing, layering, and how to print gradients. Whatever your experience level coming in, you will leave the class with an increased confidence in constructing designs and images, pulling prints on paper or fabric, and troubleshooting any printing issues you may run into.
