Experimental Print

In this course students will produce multiple prints, including relief, digital, and screen prints. Beginning with monotypes, students will explore how to layer within an image and eventually build those layers with hand-drawn elements and ghost prints. The incorporation of laser-cut matrices as well as varying methods of inkjet transfers will further the investigation of mechanical reproduction. This course will push the boundaries of traditional mark-making, and produce artworks where painting, drawing, and print overlap. Trips to the Art Institute of Chicago, a field trip to a local printmaking studio, and discussion of practicing artists, supplement the studio experience. This course is recommended for both beginners and those wanting to improve and develop their current skills and ideas.
