Develop skill in illustrating the fashion figure, styling, draping, developing patterns, and fabric selection. You will develop unique textile and garment designs and learn about clothing as a language, how garments communicate, and what they signify. As inspiration, you will be exposed to contemporary designers and design practices, as well as the history of fashion design and individual garments.
Expect to explore exciting resources such as our Fashion Resource Center (not available to the public!) to see couture garments and accessories up close, and get insight into the history of fashion and costume. We will also visit our museum, the Art Institute of Chicago’s collection of art and textiles to help spark ideas and creativity.
Note: This course is for students interested in exploring contemporary fashion design methods and materials rather than constructing specific garments.
Class will not meet on November 27, 2022.
