This course is designed for intermediate and advanced students with a knowledge of basic weaving techniques who now wish to focus on different weave structures, delve deep into the construction of fabric, and apply these skills to their artistic practice. Students will examine how textile histories can reinforce meaning, experiment with patterns including plain weave and twill, and tapestry techniques like image making and color blocking. Students can bring their own hand loom or build one under the guidance of the instructor on the first day of class. Note: Beginning students may also take this course, provided they complete beginner projects at home in order to keep up with the curriculum.
