In this 5-week course specifically designed for high school juniors and seniors, students work to prepare their portfolio for college applications. Emphasis is placed on editing, sequencing, and adjusting an existing body of work to fully represent the artist. In addition, students learn how to properly document their artwork, create high-quality digital slides, develop an artist statement, and present their portfolio to others. Additional resources such as SAIC's Admissions staff, artist presentations, and the Art Institute of Chicago supplement the course curriculum. The course concludes just before most college application deadlines so students are fully prepared to submit their portfolios to the schools of their choice. This course does not cover studio time or techniques—please see our Advanced Projects option for a studio-based class.
