Learn how to capture the world around you and create dynamic, portfolio-quality work in this new digital photography course. After capturing images using a digital camera of your choice (DSLR or your own smartphone) you'll investigate experimental post-production techniques to take your images to another level. By learning to manipulate composition, exposure, and lighting you'll learn to produce everything from stunning portraits and powerful action shots to breath-taking landscapes and intimate macro stills. From there, you'll explore experimental Adobe software techniques and printing processes, collage and image transfer methods, and more to enhance and push your work. Through lively in-class discussions and critiques, you will have the opportunity to discuss and refine your ideas and visions with your peers and receive invaluable instructor feedback. You'll also visit the Art Institute of Chicago's world-renowned photographic print study room to see first-hand the works of other great artists and to gain inspiration. No prior experience is required. *NOTE* Students must have a smartphone or DSLR camera to participate in this course, any make or model will work. You will have access to SAIC computer labs with Adobe software, but students are encouraged to bring their own laptop or tablet for after-studio hours and homework. SAIC will provide students with Adobe licenses on their personal devices for the duration of their course.
