Times of uncertainty can present difficulties for artists and designers; they can also present opportunities for new ways of thinking and making. This interdisciplinary course will challenge you to experiment with new creative strategies (in a medium of your choice) - and to develop, expand and contextualize them, in conversation with a supportive and critical network of peers. With the invitation to respond to one prompt per day for the first week of class, you will trial new practices and angles, and explore the creative potential of play, experimentation and failure. Through class discussion via Zoom, and shared learning and exchange via the Canvas online learning platform at any time, you will then be supported as you develop a project that builds upon one of the first week?s prompts. Weekly presentations will introduce a number of tactics used by artists and designers to find the generative potential in restriction or uncertainty, and to work through creative block. Expect to step away from this class with new work, new ideas, and fresh approaches. The course will conclude with the release of a digital publication, showcasing projects by all participants.
