In this course, students of all levels will engage in the immersive practice of urban sketching, drawing on site in locations around the city. Students will use their preferred drawing materials and work in their own style and voice as they visit a variety of sites, which may include a limited-access rehearsal of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, behind-the-scenes in a working distillery, an historic private residence and grounds, a ship, a botanic conservatory, and an evening of music at Millennium Park's Pritzker Pavilion. As a group, the class will curate a selection of sketches and create a mini-blog in the spirit of urbansketchers.org.
This one-week intensive meets Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with opportunities to work evenings in supervised studios. Course tuition is $685 with optional campus housing available for an additional $430 a week. To register for housing please email us at cs@saic.edu or call 312.629.6170.
