The Virtual Pottery Wheel - Degree Course

This course will focus on redeveloping skills associated with the wheel. While we will not be using the wheel, we will think about Cyclical, Return, Recurrent, Repeat, Rotation, Spin, Revolve, Round, Unroll, Unfold, Open and ways of creating shapes that could come off the wheel in new ways with technology including the ceramic 3D ceramic printer and other hand techniques without the wheel equipment. Students will be introduced to a number of methods to create vessels and sculpture in nontraditional ways using cyclical and non-cyclical techniques. Rendered 3D files will be submitted by students, reviewed for print, generated with the ceramic printer (potterbot) and fired in the kilns at SAIC.
