In this course, students of all levels will engage in the immersive practice of urban sketching, drawing on site in locations around the city. Students will use their preferred drawing materials and work in their own style and voice as they visit a variety of sites, which may include a limited-access rehearsal of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, behind-the-scenes in a working distillery, an historic private residence and grounds, a ship, a botanic conservatory, and an evening of music at Millennium Park's Pritzker Pavilion. As a group, the class will curate a selection of sketches and create a mini-blog in the spirit of urbansketchers.org. Note: This one-week intensive meets Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with opportunities to work evenings in supervised studios.
The tuition for one-week intensives is $685. Optional housing is available in our residence halls for an additional cost of $455 per week. To reserve housing, please email cs@saic.edu.
