This topical photography course includes historical investigation and shooting assignments related to the theme of urban life and urban spaces. The focus will be on exploring the architecture and urban topologies of Chicago in order to develop new and unique ways to represent city life through digital photography. Students will capture urban images both in and outside of class and look at a wide variety of historical examples to help develop and further expand their photographic practices. Slide lectures, discussions, and individual and group reviews are included. Students must provide their own digital SLR (single-lens reflex) camera with manual functions; no point-and-shoot cameras. Prerequisite(s): Digital Photography 1 or equivalent experience.
